The Babylonian Map of the World with Irving Finkel | Curator’s Corner S9 Ep5

The Babylonian map of the world is the oldest map of the world, in the world. Written and inscribed on clay in Mesopotamia around 2,900-years-ago, it is, like so many cuneiform tablets, incomplete. However, Irving Finkel and a particularly gifted student of his - Edith Horsley - managed to locate a missing piece of the map, slot it back into the cuneiform tablet, and from there set us all on journey through the somewhat mythical landscape of Mesopotamia to find the final resting place of the ark. And yes we mean that ark, as in Noah's ark. Although in the earlier Mesopotamian version of the flood story, the ark is built by Ziusudra.

Stel je voor, je loopt in de 17e eeuw door de binnenstad van Leiden en je hoort iemand op een hoorn blazen. Je weet wat dat betekent. Je gaat af op het geluid en de geur van versgebakken brood. Je wandelt de hoek om en ziet twee trotse mensen bij hun uitgestalde broodjes staan, net uit de oven. Je zou zo wat kadetjes bij ze willen bestellen. Het melkveebedrijf De Koeienkade van de familie Meester is al ongeveer 200 jaar op een unieke locatie gevestigd in Muiden met uitzicht op het prachtige Muiderslot.

Wij, Piet en Anja Meester, hebben een prachtig melkveebedrijf dat bestaat uit 75 - 80 melk- en kalfkoeien van het hoofdzakelijk Fleckvieh ras. De koeien gaan in het voorjaar tot het najaar overdag naar buiten. Ons streven is dat de melkkoeien zolang mogelijk productief zijn. De Koeienkade is een bedrijf waar we enorm trots op zijn.

Naast onze passie voor de koeien, het bedrijf en het platteland, vinden we het ook heel leuk om deze passie te delen met anderen. Daardoor hebben we activiteiten ontwikkeld zodat ook u ons plezier kan beleven.
