Curetes Street, Ephesus : In ancient times, Ephesus was a town in Asia Minor, in modern-day Türkiye. It was one of the richest cities around the world for centuries. In the city there are two standing marble pillars that stand on opposite sides of the roads. These pillars form the Gate of Hercules, decorated with fascinating reliefs depicting the famous strong man. These gates are the entrances to Curetes Street, one of the main streets of Ephesus. In mythology, the word Curetes belonged to the demi-gods. It was the name used in Ephesus to refer to the priests. The street connects the entire city of Ephesus where all the aristocrats once lived and worked. Curetes Street is one of the main arteries of Ephesus. It is mostly made of marble, covering an extensive part of the pipe drainage system. All that remains of its location are the pillars that have remained through time. To the right of Curetes Street, is the Temple of Hadrian, dedicated to the emperor during 129 AD. The sides of Curetes Street are overflowing with mosaics as well as galleries of columns. These galleries will guide any tourist to shops in the city and homes. The end of La Calle Curetes is something you should not miss. It is the Library of Celsus, considered the greatest infrastructure in Ephesus. It was built to commemorate the late Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemeanus, the Governor of Roman Asia. It used to contain more than 12,000 scrolls. The only part of the library that survives is its façade as it was burned by the Goths. One convenient thing about Curetes Street is that once you visit it, it serves as the primary path to explore the historical areas found in the ancient city of Ephesus such as the Temple of Artemis and the Library of Celsus. The exploration will be full of emotions and at the same time you will have the opportunity to learn from its rich history.
